In order to demonstrate the benefits of green infrastructure in the El Esterito neighborhood, we convinced 5 neighbors to implement a green infrastructure garden along the entire sidewalk where our workshop is located.
We designed a garden that shows in a very direct way the management of rainwater for tree irrigation, reducing flooding in the street and guaranteeing the long-term survival of native vegetation.
We launched a call for people interested in the subject and in community construction to learn about the techniques in a theoretical and practical way.
On the first day of the workshop, we began by presenting our civil association as well as the basic knowledge of green infrastructure, and then began with the excavation of the micro-basin.
The next day we worked on pouring the gravel, placing stone, sowing 2 green trees, a palo blanco and a mesquite, as well as creeping plants. We finished the day with the cuts in the sidewalk for the access of rainwater.
With the help of 20 volunteers, neighbors, Niparajá A.C, and Conafor, the garden was successfully built in May 2019.
